On Tuesday August 15th, the department "smoked" up the firehouse for search & rescue simulations.
Many seasoned firefighters participated as well as a few inexperienced members. totaling almost a dozen members, who engaged in the training. This training helped prepare the members who will be going through the Firefighter 1 Class in the future. It also brought about great discussion and demonstrations on smoke behavior, use of tools, and search techniques.
GVFRS hosted a boot drive over the 4th of July weekend which was a great success. Multiple members participated in the fundrive and raised money to put towards member training and equipment.
Flags were handed out to all of the community members who donated in appreciation for their support.
On June 20th, Gladstone hosted a training on fire behavior and smoke reading. It was attended by Gladstone Fire, Lovingston Fire and Amherst Fire department members. It was educational for both new and experienced firefighters with great demonstrations and practical application discussions. Interagency training within the county in addition to training with departments from neighboring counties is very beneficial when working mutual aid calls.
Through June GVFRS got calls for a barn fire, MVC's and other rescue related calls.
They also hosted an interagency training on smoke reading and fire behavior. (See above post)
